Usha General Store

My shop is right here on Roorkee Road in Meerut, not too far from the Raj Mandir Mandap. Most days I get here early to open up the shutters before the traffic starts getting heavy. It’s a busy spot honestly. We have all the usual stuff people need for their houses. Bags of flour, soaps, notebooks for the kids, and that kind of thing. It isn’t a huge place, just Usha General Store, but we keep it full. Sometimes the dust from the road gets inside so I spend a lot of time wiping the counters. People from the neighborhood stop in while they are walking home. It’s nice because you get to know names after a while. I try to remember what people usually buy so I can have it ready. If someone needs a specific brand of tea or a certain size of lightbulb, I check the back room. The address is 250001 for the mail, but everyone just knows where we are. It gets pretty loud in the afternoon with all the cars and bikes going past on the way to the city center. I’ve been sitting in this same spot for quite a while now. My chair is getting a bit worn out but it works fine for me. I don’t use any fancy computers, just a notebook to write things down when I need to. That’s pretty much how it goes every day at the store near the mandap.
