Singh General Store & Sodariya Kender

You can find us at L-11 in Meerut Cantt. We are right across from the police chowki, which is a good landmark for people who haven't been here before. Being in the Cantt area, things are a bit more orderly than in the main city, but it still gets busy. We run a general store and we also have the Sodariya Kender part of the business. It is a mix of different things under one roof. We sell all the usual groceries like rice, sugar, and soap, but we also have items that people might need for their daily chores. The shop has been here for a while and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. Having the police chowki right there makes the spot feel safe even when we stay open a bit late. We get a lot of people from the army quarters and the nearby houses coming in. We don't have any corporate style or uniforms. We just wear our regular clothes and talk to the people who walk in. Some days are slow and we just sit and listen to the radio, and other days everyone seems to come in at once. We do our best to find what people need in the stacks of boxes we have in the back. It’s just a regular shop doing its thing every day in Meerut. We just keep things simple.
