If you go down Kila Road in Meerut, you will find Sharma Confectioners & General Merchant at number 197. We are in the New Prabhat Nagar area, specifically near Jail Chungi and right opposite the cold storage building. It is easy to spot because of the trucks often parked across the street. I handle both the snacks and the general items here. In the morning, I arrange the goods and check the dates on the packaged items. The shop has a lot of items crammed into a small space, from biscuits to household cleaners. It gets quite busy during the festival seasons because people want specific things for their homes. I usually stay until late evening, especially when the street lights come on and the local traffic picks up. The cold storage across the road makes this spot feel a bit chilly in the winter, but it’s fine. I use a simple calculator for the bills and keep everything in a notebook. The floor is made of old stone and I have to sweep it a few times a day. Meerut can be a chaotic place, but inside here, I just focus on serving whoever comes through the door. It’s a plain shop with no big signs or bright lights, just the stuff people need every day. I also keep a few crates out front for when the deliveries arrive. Anyway, it is a quiet enough life for us.
