Rajkumar Bardana Traders

We are located at number 277 on Police Street, right in the heart of Sadar Bazar. If you know the area, you know how hectic it gets. Bardana business is basically dealing with all kinds of sacks and bags, mostly jute and heavy plastic ones used for grains and other goods. Our shop is usually filled with stacks of these bags, sometimes piled so high you can barely see the back wall. It’s a dusty kind of job because of the jute fibers floating in the air, so we usually have the big pedestal fans running even when it’s not that hot. The trucks come in early to unload, and the street gets blocked quite often, which leads to a lot of shouting and horn honking outside. Rajkumar is usually around, keeping track of the counts and making sure the bundles are tied tight. We don't have any fancy displays because a sack is a sack, but we know which ones are strong enough for the heavy loads. The floor is concrete and a bit cracked from the weight of the bales. We’ve been on Police Street for a long time, and we've seen the market change, but the need for good packing bags never really goes away. It’s hard work, involving a lot of lifting and dragging, but it’s what we’ve always done. We just take it one day at a time. It’s a simple trade, but it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. Some evenings we just sit on the bags and have our tea.
