Meerut Kirana Store

Meerut Kirana Store is right in the middle of Ismail Nagar. It is one of those places where the street is narrow and you always hear the sound of bikes and people walking past. We have been here in Ismail Nagar for a while now, and the shop is pretty much filled from floor to ceiling with bags and boxes. Running a kirana store means you are always dusty from the flour or the pulses, but that is just part of the job. I usually get here early to open the shutters and see what needs to be restocked from the wholesale market. The shelves are mostly packed with the usual things like tea leaves, salt, and different types of lentils. It is a small space, so things can get a bit cluttered if we don't stay on top of it. We spend a lot of time just weighing out small portions of things into plastic bags for the neighbors. There is no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that hums all day long. In the evenings, it gets a bit more crowded when people are coming home from work and realize they forgot to buy milk or eggs for their dinner. We just do our work and keep the books straight without any fuss. It is a steady way to spend the day, and we know most of the faces that come through the door by name. We just focus on having what people need when they actually need it for their homes.
