York New Collection

You can find us at 386 Gali No. 6 in Nehru Nagar. It is a narrow lane, and sometimes it is hard for two cars to pass each other, but that is just how the neighborhood is. York New Collection is our small shop where we keep all the clothes and items we have for sale. It is not like the big stores in the malls. We have wooden racks that we built ourselves and the lighting is just some basic tubes on the ceiling. Every morning, we haul the mannequins out to the front so people walking by can see what is new. The lane is usually full of kids playing or neighbors talking to each other. We know most of the people who live in Gali No. 6, so it feels very familiar. Sometimes someone will stop by just to chat for a while without buying anything, and that is fine with us. We spend a lot of time folding and refolding the fabrics to keep things looking neat. The shop gets a bit cool in the winter because the door stays open most of the day. We have a small desk in the back where we keep our accounts in a simple notebook. There are no fancy computers or scanners here. We just do things the old way. When the sun starts to set, the streetlights come on and the lane gets a different kind of energy. We stay open until the dinner hour, then we pull down the metal shutter and head home.
