Laxmi Kirana Store

Over in Meerut Cantt, specifically at Tilak Park Sadar, you’ll find our place. Laxmi Kirana Store is at Shop No. 7. It’s quite close to the Sai Mandir. Being near a temple means we see a lot of people, especially on special days. The shop is filled with bags of grains, pulses, and all those kitchen staples. It smells like spices most of the time. We’ve been part of this Meerut community for a while. It’s a lot of work weighing things out and packing them in small bags. We use an old scale mostly. The floor is concrete and we’ve got wooden shelves that have seen better days. It isn’t some polished store from a mall. It’s a real place where people come to buy their monthly rations. We know which family likes which brand of tea. Sometimes the kids come in for a single piece of candy. The traffic in Sadar is always a mess, but we are used to the noise by now. We just keep our heads down and do the work. There’s always something to clean or some stock to arrange. That is the way a kirana store runs. We are just here every day, making sure the local pantry stays full. It takes a lot of patience to deal with the crowds on market days but we have been doing it for years now. We stay open late into the night.
