Jain General Store

We are located in the Sadar Dal Mandi area of Meerut, right in the heart of the Sadar Chowk Bazar. Being in Dal Mandi means there is always a lot of movement, mostly people looking for good deals on their kitchen staples. Our store, Jain General Store, has been a part of this routine for years. The shop is filled with the smell of different spices and grains because we keep a lot of bulk items. It’s not the quietest place to work, with all the carts and people talking outside, but it keeps us busy. We spend a lot of our time weighing out portions and tying up plastic bags with jute string. The shelves are mostly wooden and a bit worn out at the edges, but they hold everything we need. We don't try to look like those new malls you see popping up. We’d rather just have the right stock at a price that makes sense for the local families. Some days are slow, especially when it rains and the streets get muddy, but we stay open regardless. We have everything from toothbrushes to large sacks of flour. It’s just me and a helper usually, trying to keep the inventory straight and the customers happy enough to come back next week. It’s a simple way to make a living in Meerut, serving the people who pass through the chowk every day.
