Ishika General Store

If you are walking through Meerut Cantt near Budhana Gate, you will find us at Satyam Palace. It is a busy area, and there is always something happening on the street outside. I spend most of my time behind the counter here at Ishika General Store. The shop isn't very large, but we make use of every inch of wall space for hanging packets and stacking boxes. We get a lot of people coming in for their daily household items like spices, soaps, and snacks. Meerut can be very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer, so the mood of the shop changes with the seasons. We get the new stock delivered through the narrow lanes, and sometimes it is a real task to get the big crates inside. I try to keep everything where I can find it quickly because people are usually in a hurry to get home. My son helps me out in the afternoons when the school rush starts. We see a lot of students and office workers stopping by. It is just a local business, nothing more than that. We focus on having the stuff people ask for most often. It is hard work staying on your feet all day, but seeing the same faces every week makes it feel like we belong here in this corner of the city. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
