Furnitex Designers is based over at B-182, Preet Vihar, near the Nauchandi Ground. It’s a decent spot, though it gets pretty lively when there are events happening at the ground. We spend our time thinking about how to put furniture together so it actually works in a real room. It’s a mix of drawing things out and then actually getting dusty in the back where the saws are. The place usually smells like wood shavings and glue, which I guess is better than a lot of other smells. We’ve got a small team here. We don’t have a big showroom with bright lights and salesmen in suits. It’s more of a workshop where we try to figure out the best way to make a chair or a table. Sometimes we argue about where a joint should go or if a piece of wood is straight enough. That’s just part of the day. Preet Vihar is a good neighborhood, and we’ve been at this address long enough that the postman doesn't have to look at the numbers anymore. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make some decent furniture for people who need it. It’s hard work and your back hurts at the end of the day, but seeing a finished piece go out the door is a good feeling. We just stay busy and keep the machines running.
