Beena General Store

Beena General Store is tucked away in the Chota Bazar area of Kankerkhera Market. We are very close to Snatan Dhram Inter College so we see many students throughout the day. They come in for snacks or pens before their classes start. The bazar is quite narrow and it gets very crowded with rickshaws and people carrying bags. Our shop is small but we pack a lot into it. There are bags of grains on the floor and rows of jars on the walls. It feels a bit tight when more than two people come in but everyone is used to it. Meerut is a busy city and this part of Kanker Khera is no different. I usually have the radio playing softly in the background to pass the time while I work. The walls could use a new coat of paint but I haven't gotten around to it yet. We serve the families who have lived in these backstreets for generations. They don't want anything fancy just the things they use every day in their kitchens. I know which brand of tea most people prefer before they even ask for it. It is a simple way to live and work. The shop opens when the sun comes up and we stay until the market starts to quiet down at night and the college students have all gone home.
