If you go down Begum Bridge Road in Meerut, you will find us at 105, right near Khuni Pul. Amit Beauty Centre is across from G.I.C., which makes it easy for people to explain where we are. We have been selling beauty supplies and trinkets for a long time. It is not a big fancy showroom. It is just a shop with lots of mirrors and boxes. We stock things like hair clips, bangles, and the creams people use every day. Meerut gets quite hot, so we sell a lot of talcum powder and wet wipes in the summer. I usually sit near the front door to catch whatever breeze comes through. Customers come in looking for specific shades of bindi or matching thread. Sometimes they bring a piece of cloth to show me the color. I try my best to match it from the drawers. It gets a bit chaotic when several people want different things at once. The floor is old stone and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. Working near Khuni Pul means we see a lot of travelers and locals every day. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. It’s a steady job. People always need these small things. We just stay here and keep the shop running like it always has been.
