If you go down to Khirpai in Midnapore, you will find us at Saraswati Sarkar’s place. That is where Bariye Dao Tomar Haat Foundation is based. It is a quiet town, and our office is just a regular part of the neighborhood. We do not have any big signs or flashy lights. Most people just know us by word of mouth. The space is simple, with just enough room for a few people to sit and work. We spend a lot of time on local matters and keeping our records in order. It is not the kind of place where you will see people in suits. We mostly just wear what is comfortable and get to work. Midnapore can be quite beautiful, especially after the rain, and we like being out here away from the big city rush. Sometimes we have to travel a bit to get supplies or meet people, but we always come back here to finish our tasks. It is a slower pace of life, but we like it that way. We are not trying to be anything we are not. We just do our bit every day and hope it makes sense. There is usually a pot of tea on the stove and someone ready to talk about the work. It is a very human way to run a foundation. We just keep things moving.
