Our place is in Irkha, which is a small village near Nandakumar. If you know the area, you know it’s mostly fields and quiet roads. We handle spices here at Blackberry Spices Private Limited. It’s not a huge operation with machines and robots. It’s mostly just us and some people from the village. We spend a lot of time sorting through things by hand. The air always has this sharp smell of turmeric or chili, depending on what we are packing that day. My clothes usually smell like it even after I go home. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We just have a sturdy building in Bara Kamarda where we get the work done. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait a bit. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone to write fancy things about us. We just sell spices to people who need them. Most of our orders come from people who have known us for years. My cousin handles the papers and I look after the stock. It’s a simple way to make a living. The rains can be a problem because the roads get very muddy and the trucks struggle to reach us. But we've been here long enough to know how to manage. We just keep our heads down and try to do things properly without making any big fuss about it. That's really all there is to our story.
