The heat is the first thing you notice when you come to our place in Ganddapothram. Galvanising is heavy work. We have these big tanks filled with molten zinc, and the air always feels thick. Being in Jinnaram Mandal puts us right in the middle of the industrial area. There are trucks coming in with raw steel and leaving with shiny, coated parts all day long. It’s a loud environment. You have to shout sometimes to be heard over the cranes and the bubbling tanks. We don't spend much time sitting in the office. Most of the action is on the floor where the metal gets dipped. Safety is something we just do naturally now, like wearing the heavy gloves and boots. The floor is often dusty from the chemicals and the metal shavings. It’s not the kind of place where you’d want to wear a nice shirt. We’ve been operating out of Ganddapothram for a good bit of time. We know the other factory owners around here. It’s a tough business, but there is something satisfying about seeing a rusty piece of iron come out looking brand new and protected. We just keep the fires going and make sure the schedules are met. It’s practical work for people who don't mind getting their hands dirty and dealing with a lot of heat every shift.
