Hindustan Construction Company

Up here in Nalagaja, Mayurbhanj, life moves at its own pace. We've been running Hindustan Construction Company from this corner of Orissa for quite some time now. It’s mostly rural around here, so our projects vary quite a bit. One day we might be working on a small house, and the next we are helping with a boundary wall. We don't have a big corporate office; we just have our base here in the village. Dealing with the monsoon rains is probably our biggest challenge. It stops everything for weeks sometimes, so we have to plan around the weather. The people who work with us are from around the district. We all know each other. We use basic tools and reliable methods that we know work in this climate. There is no point in trying to be something we aren't. We are just local builders who know how to handle stone and cement. Sometimes we have to travel a bit to get supplies from the bigger towns, but we manage. If you are looking for us, just ask around Nalagaja; most people know where we sit. We aren't interested in being the biggest company, just in doing enough work to keep everyone busy and the bills paid. It isn't a glamorous job, but there is something good about seeing a project finished. We just keep at it, day after day, and try to do right by our neighbors in the district.
