If you’re driving down Meerut Rohta Road, you’ve probably passed us near the BSNL Exchange. We’re out here in Gagan Vihar, which is a bit of a dusty area but it stays busy. Most of our day is spent looking at screens or climbing up ladders to mount cameras on walls. It’s not the most glamorous job, but people around here seem to need it more and more lately. We started out small and stayed that way because it's easier to manage things ourselves. I spend a lot of time untangling cables and trying to explain to people how to use their mobile apps to see their own front doors. Sometimes the internet at the exchange nearby is the only thing that keeps us sane when we're testing stuff. It’s a practical business. We don’t have a big front office with a receptionist; usually, it’s just one of us covered in a bit of wall dust from a drill. The neighborhood knows where we are if they need a sensor or a DVR fixed. It’s honest work, I think. We stay until the job is finished, even if it’s late and the road outside has gone quiet. It’s just me and a couple of others trying to make sure the cameras actually record when they’re supposed to and the wiring is tucked away as neatly as possible.
