Golista Florist

Golista Florist is right in the heart of Rajadhiraj Bazar, near Vishram Ghat. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know how busy it gets. There is always someone shouting, a horn honking, or bells ringing from the temples. Our shop is small and always smells like damp earth and cut stems. It isn't a clean, perfect place. There are leaves on the floor and water spills every time we move the buckets. We get our flowers very early in the morning when it’s still dark outside. We have to sort through them quickly to see what survived the trip. It’s hard on the hands. I’ve got calluses from the thorns and the scissors. We don’t have a fancy catalog for people to look at. We just show them what we have in the buckets that day. If the marigolds are particularly bright, we suggest those. If the lilies are wilting, we move them to the back. We aren't trying to be the most famous florist in the world. We just like being part of the Bazar. We talk to the other vendors and share snacks in the afternoon. People stop by on their way to the Ghat for all sorts of reasons. We just wrap up what they need in old newspapers and wish them a good day. It’s a busy, messy, real life we have here in the market.
