Military Hospital

Working at the Military Hospital in Mathura Cantt is mostly about dealing with the heat and the crowds. Mathura is a busy place and the cantonment area is no different. The hospital building itself has seen better days, with some paint peeling here and there, but it stands up to the weather. We see a lot of families from the quarters nearby. In the mornings, there is always a long line of people waiting for their turns. I usually try to get in early because the sun gets so heavy by noon. The fans in the wards just push the hot air around, but nobody really complains much. We have these old metal cabinets full of files that have been here since before I started. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit and we just have to wait it out. It is not a very quiet place because of the traffic from the main road and the soldiers drilling nearby. You get used to the noise after a few weeks. The tea stall right outside the gate is where most of us end up after a long shift. We talk about the patients or the news from home. It is just a regular job at the Mathura Cantt military hospital. We don't have anything fancy, just the basics to help people feel a bit better when they are sick. It’s a lot of walking up and down hallways.
