Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar High School

Our school is tucked away at number 121 in Keri, which is a small village near Ponda in Goa. Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar High School has been part of this community for years, and most people around here know exactly where we are located. The area is quite green, with a lot of trees around the perimeter that drop leaves all over the yard. We spend a good amount of time sweeping those up every morning before the sun gets too high. It gets really hot in this part of Goa, so we appreciate the shade when we can get it. The building is a basic one-story setup with long corridors that stay relatively cool. We don't have any big corporate offices or polished reception desks. There is just a small wooden table near the front where visitors sign in. You can hear the sounds of the village from the classrooms, like the occasional motorbike going past or a dog barking somewhere down the road. It is a very local atmosphere here. Many of us have lived in Ponda our whole lives, so the school feels like a second home. The walls have been painted a few times, but the humidity always finds a way to leave a few marks. We don't mind it much. We just focus on keeping the doors open and making sure there is enough chalk and paper for the day's work. It is just a regular village school.
