House Of Cricket is tucked away at Vipash Kadam Lotus Inn, right near the Punjab National Bank. If you walk inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the smell of new cricket bats and leather balls. It’s a smell I never really get tired of. I spend most of my time here sorting through gear and chatting with people who are just as obsessed with the game as I am. We get all sorts coming in, from little kids getting their first kit to older guys who have been playing on the weekends for twenty years. Being near the bank makes it easy for people to find us. The shop can get a bit crowded when we have a new shipment of gear, but we find a place for everything eventually. I try to keep things organized, but when you have dozens of bats and pads, it’s a constant battle. We don’t do those loud sales pitches you see in big malls. If someone wants to talk about the weight of a bat or how a certain ball swings, I’m happy to sit and discuss it for as long as they want. It’s more of a community spot than just a store. Sometimes we just sit around and watch the match on a small TV in the corner while we work. It’s a simple life, surrounded by the sport we love, right here at Lotus Inn every single day.
