You will find us at Plot No. 308, which is just down the way from the other shops. It’s a lot of manual work here at Gayatri Seeds Corporation. We spend our mornings moving sacks around to make space for the new arrivals. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s boiling outside. Sometimes the cats from the neighborhood come in to hide from the sun. We don't mind as long as they stay away from the bags. We have a small crew, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. It’s easy to get lost in the rows of inventory if you aren't careful. We use a lot of chalk to mark things down on the board. The phone rings a bit, mostly just people asking if we have this or that in stock. We don't use computers for everything, pen and paper still work okay for us. It’s a bit old-fashioned, maybe, but it avoids mistakes. When the weather changes, the air smells like dry earth and grain. It’s a smell you never really get tired of. We’ve had the same sign out front for years, and it’s faded a bit, but people still find us. We just keep our heads down and handle the orders as they come in. Nothing too complicated about it. We close up when the sun goes down and start again tomorrow.
