About Emu Farms – Agriculture & Farming in Mangaluru
We’ve been at Ramani Sadan for a while now. Most people around Mannagudda know where we are. It started out small, just a couple of birds because we were curious about how they’d do in this climate. It turns out emus are pretty hardy. They don’t need much, just some space to run and good feed. My brother and I handle most of the daily chores. We wake up early to check the fences and make sure the water troughs are full. It’s dusty work, especially in the dry months. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just the farm and the birds. People stop by sometimes to ask about the eggs or just to see the emus because you don’t see them every day around here. We try to keep things simple. If there’s a problem with a fence, we fix it ourselves. It’s not a desk job, that’s for sure. Sometimes the weather gets rough, and we have to move things around quickly, but that’s just how farm life goes. We’ve learned a lot by just doing it every day. It’s a lot of physical labor, cleaning out the pens and lugging bags of feed around. Some days are longer than others. We just focus on keeping the birds healthy and making sure everything runs okay at the place in Mannagudda. It’s honest work and keeps us busy from sunrise to sunset. We enjoy the quiet pace here.
