If you go down to the Bunder area and walk along Port Road, you’ll find us at Shop No.786. D Raghunath Venkatesh Bhat & Company has been a part of this neighborhood for quite some time now. You can usually smell the sea salt in the air since we are so close to the docks. It’s a noisy place with the trucks moving back and forth all day long. The shop itself isn't very large, but we’ve packed every inch of it with what we need. Sometimes the floor gets a bit sandy from the boots coming in and out, but that’s just how it is working near the port. We don't bother with fancy decorations or anything. There’s a calendar on the wall and a few old photos. Most of our day is spent talking to the loaders and making sure the orders are correct. It’s a lot of shouting sometimes just to be heard over the engines outside. We drink a lot of tea to keep going. My family has been doing this for a long time, and the name on the board is something we just keep up out of habit. It’s a busy life, and by the time we close the shutters at night, we’re pretty tired. We don't have a website or anything big. People just come to the shop when they need us. It’s straightforward and keeps us busy.
