Working on the 2nd floor of the Venkat Padma building means we hear a lot of what goes on outside. Since we are right on Canara High School Road, there is the constant sound of kids shouting and bells ringing throughout the day. Dongerkeri is an old part of town, so the roads are a bit tight for cars. Vijayadurga Impex Pvt. Ltd. has been here for a bit now. We have a lot of space for our desks, which is nice, but the elevator is sometimes out of order so we get our exercise on the stairs. The office is usually filled with the sound of keyboards clicking and someone talking on the phone to a supplier. We don't do much in the way of decorating; it’s mostly just maps and calendars on the walls to keep track of where things are going. It feels like a real workplace, not some fancy showroom. We spend a lot of time double-checking lists because mistakes are a pain to fix later. Sometimes we have tea brought up from the stall downstairs, and that’s usually the highlight of the afternoon. It is a busy spot but we’ve gotten used to the noise and the pace of the neighborhood. We just show up, do the work, and head home when the sun goes down. Most of our furniture is old but it stays sturdy enough for the daily work we have to do.
