Balakrishna

Bhatramane is our place in Abburkatte, Somwarpet. If you’ve ever been to the Kodagu district, you know how beautiful and green it is. We are right in the middle of that. Life here is tied to the land and the seasons. We don't have a big fancy office building. We work out of our family place. Most of our day is spent outdoors or in the sheds handling the produce. Whether it’s coffee or spices, there is always something that needs attention. The weather in Somwarpet can be unpredictable, especially during the monsoon. We spend a lot of time making sure everything stays dry and handled properly. It’s a quiet life compared to the cities. We know everyone in Abburkatte, and news travels mostly by word of mouth. We don’t use much technology other than what’s necessary to get the job done. Our way of working is something we learned from the people before us. It’s about being patient and waiting for the right time to harvest or sell. We don't have a marketing budget or a website with flashy photos. People know us as Balakrishna from Bhatramane, and that’s enough. We just take care of the land and the crops, and things usually work out. It’s a lot of physical labor, but the air is fresh and the surroundings are peaceful. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else but right here in Kodagu.
