Humanitarian Care Foundation

You can find the Humanitarian Care Foundation at Habib House, right in the middle of Mandvi in Mumbai. We are on A U Memon Street, near the Minara Masjid. If you know Mumbai, you know this area is incredibly crowded and loud, but it’s also full of life. Our office is in a very old building, number 101 and 97. It’s a tight space and the stairs are narrow, but it’s where we do all our work. Being in the heart of the city means we see people from all walks of life every single day. We don't have a corporate board or a fancy reception area. People just knock on the door when they need help. The name of the foundation sounds very formal, but we are just regular people trying to look after those who have been forgotten or are going through a hard time. It’s messy work sometimes because the needs in this city are so huge. We deal with a lot of paperwork and phone calls, trying to coordinate care for people who don't have anyone else. We don't have much of a budget for anything except the essentials. Most days are long and exhausting, but the spirit of the neighborhood keeps us going. It’s a small operation in a big city, doing what we can with what we have.
