Out here in Village Mocha, things move at a much slower pace than they do in the cities. We are right on the edge of Kanha National Park, so our neighbors are mostly trees and the animals that live in the forest. Tuli Tiger Resort is a place where people come when they want to get away from the noise of their normal lives. It’s not easy running a resort in the middle of the jungle. We have to deal with the weather, which can be very wet during the monsoon, and the fact that we are quite far from any big shops. But it’s beautiful here. In the early morning, you can hear the birds waking up, and sometimes you might hear the alarm calls of the deer if a predator is nearby. We have simple rooms that look out over the greenery. We spend a lot of our time making sure the paths are clear and that the guests are ready for their safaris into the park. It’s a quiet life, mostly. We don't have much of a phone signal out here, which some people like and some people don't. We cook simple meals and try to make people feel at home in the woods. It’s a lot of physical labor, keeping the grounds tidy and looking after the gardens. Being so close to nature makes it worth the effort. It’s just a resort in a small village, doing our best with what the forest gives us every single season.
