You can find us right inside the district hospital campus in Mandla. Because we are inside the grounds, it is always hectic. People are coming in at all hours of the day and night. The shop is small and stays pretty crowded because of the location. We have to be quick because the people coming to us are usually in a hurry or dealing with something stressful. It’s a lot of pressure sometimes, but we are used to the rhythm of the hospital. We keep the shelves stocked with the basics and the more specific things doctors ask for. It’s not the most comfortable place to sit and chat, as space is at a premium. The floor is old tile and the lighting is just standard tubes, nothing fancy at all. We spend most of our shift standing and moving between the counter and the back storage area. Being part of the hospital campus means we follow the hospital's pulse. When it’s a holiday, it might slow down a bit, but mostly it is constant. We don’t have a website or do any social media; there just isn't time for that kind of thing. We focus on the person standing in front of us. It is a very practical, hands-on job. We make sure we have the essentials so that nobody has to leave the campus to find what they need. It’s been our daily routine for quite a long time now and we've gotten used to the noise.
