The Shastri Nagar Handloom Weavers Prod. Cum Sale Co-Op. Industrial Socity Ltd. is located right in the heart of Shastri Nagar. We’re a bunch of weavers who decided it was better to work together than on our own. It’s a cooperative society, so we share the space and the sales part of the business. You can hear the sound of the looms as soon as you get close to the building. It’s a bit noisy, but that’s just how it is when people are working. We make handloom fabrics and sell them directly from our site. People from the neighborhood know where we are and often come in to see what’s new. We don’t have a lot of fancy lights or a big storefront. It’s more of a practical place where the actual work happens. Sometimes we have meetings to decide on new patterns or how to fix the equipment. It’s a local effort, and most of us have lived in Shastri Nagar for our whole lives. We just want to keep the weaving tradition going because it’s what we were taught. Some days it’s hard to find good yarn, but we manage. We aren’t trying to be the biggest company out there, just a steady one that looks after its members. It’s honest work, and we like that people still like things made by hand. It keeps the community going for us and our families.
