About The Hill Queen Handicrafts & Handloom Weavers Welfare Co. Op. Indl. Society Ltd. – Art & Craft in Mandi
This society has its roots in Madel Town. We aren't a big factory or anything like that. It's more of a group effort. The Hill Queen Handicrafts & Handloom Weavers Welfare Co. Op. Indl. Society Ltd. was started to give local weavers a place to organize their work. We spend a lot of time with looms and yarn. Madel Town is a quiet place, which is good because weaving takes a lot of concentration. You can hear the rhythmic clicking of the wooden looms if you walk by our building. It's an old building, and the lighting isn't always the best, but we make it work. We have piles of wool and cotton in different colors stacked against the walls. It’s a bit cluttered, to be honest. We aren't very good at the office side of things, but we know how to handle the thread. Everyone here has been doing this for a long time. It’s more of a community than a business. We share tea and talk about the patterns we’re working on. Sometimes the materials arrive late, and we have to wait around, but there’s always something else to clean or prep. It’s a simple life. We don’t have fancy brochures or a shiny storefront. We just focus on the handlooms and making sure the weavers have what they need to keep their craft going. We just take it one day at a time in the workshop.
