Seraj Valley Construction Company Private Limited

Up here in Salabkot, which is near Sunder Nagar in the Mandi district, we run a construction company. Being in Himachal Pradesh means we are always dealing with the hills and the rocky ground. It’s beautiful but it makes building anything a real chore. We have a small office in the village where we keep our maps and our permits. Most of the time we are out on a site somewhere in the valley, usually covered in mud or dust. We have some backhoes and some trucks that we use to move earth around. The weather is a big factor for us; if it snows or rains too much, we have to stop everything and wait it out. It’s not like working in the plains where everything is flat and easy. Here, you have to really plan how you’re going to get the materials up the narrow roads. We have a crew of local guys who know how to handle the terrain. We don't spend much money on advertising or fancy signs. Most people in the district just know us by word of mouth. We just show up every morning, check the equipment, and start digging or pouring concrete. It’s hard work on the back and the knees, but it’s what we do. We’ve been part of this community for a long time and we like staying busy.
