Mandi is a beautiful place but when you’re working in engineering, you’re mostly looking at parts and plans rather than the mountains. The district of Mandi has its own pace and we try to keep up with it. Being near a school means it gets noisy in the afternoons when the kids are heading home, but we don't mind much. It’s just part of the local atmosphere here in Himachal Pradesh. We’ve been in Sunder Nagar for a while. Our work involves a lot of technical stuff that keeps us at our desks or out on small sites. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit. We wear boots and carry tools or folders full of notes. Sometimes the electricity goes out if the weather gets bad, and we just wait it out with some hot tea. It’s a small operation compared to the big firms in the cities, but we handle our responsibilities okay. We just keep our heads down and do what needs doing for the day. No one here is looking for fame. We just want to finish the project and move to the next one without a lot of trouble. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy through the seasons.
