Govt. Service(Hppwd)

Our little office is up in Village Chalakha, which is near Bhangrotu in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Since we are part of the HPPWD, we deal with a lot of local service matters and maintenance issues. The air up here is much better than in the plains, although it can get quite chilly during the winter months when the wind blows off the mountains. We have a small building that fits right into the village setting. It isn’t anything like the big corporate offices you see in the cities. We have wooden floors and some old heaters for when the temperature really drops. People from the surrounding villages come by throughout the day to talk about roads or other local things. The road to Bhangrotu is pretty scenic, though it can be a bit of a rough drive if the weather hasn’t been good lately. We spend our time checking on projects and keeping the records straight in our ledgers. It’s a slow-paced life compared to the big cities, but there is always plenty of work to do with the roads and buildings in the district. Everyone in the Tehsil knows where we are. We don’t use any fancy systems, just the same methods we’ve used for many years now. It’s an honest place to work. You can hear the birds outside most of the time, and it’s generally peaceful. We just do our bit.
