Beghar Pashu Sewa Foundation

The Beghar Pashu Sewa Foundation operates out of Gumma, over in the Kotkhai area of Shimla. My name is Naresh Kumar and I look after things here at house number 1422. It’s a quiet part of Himachal, and we spend most of our time thinking about the animals around here. There are a lot of stray dogs and cows that don't have anyone looking after them, especially when the weather turns bad in the mountains. We started this because we could not just sit back and watch them struggle. It’s not a fancy shelter or anything like that yet. Mostly, we use this space to coordinate food and a bit of care for the animals on the street. It’s a small operation, mostly just family and a couple of neighbors who help out when they can. The office is basically a room in the house where we keep the supplies and the records. We aren't looking to be some big famous charity. We just want the animals in Kotkhai to have a bit better life. Sometimes it is hard work, and the winter snow makes it even tougher to get around, but we manage somehow.
