Amrit Rice & General Mills

Our mill is based in Village Kotla, right near the Dadheri Tehsil Mandi. Being close to the mandi is important because that is where everything happens during the season. We’ve been operating here for quite a while now. The building is old, and it has its quirks, but it serves its purpose. We deal with rice and various general milling tasks. It’s mostly just a bunch of local guys working together. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a corporate office. Most days you’ll find me out in the yard checking the moisture in the grain or talking to the drivers. The sound of the machinery is something you stop hearing after a few years. It just becomes background noise. When things get busy, we work late into the evening. Sometimes we stay until the sun starts to come up if there’s a big shipment that needs to go out. We don’t do much advertising. People in the village know us, and word of mouth is usually enough. It’s a dirty job sometimes, with all the husk and dust flying around, but it feels right to be working with the land’s output. We just take things one day at a time. If the rain stays away and the machines keep running, it’s a good day. We don’t ask for much more than that. It’s just how we live and work here in Kotla. There is always a lot of dust in the air during October.
