Rangi Ram Rice & General Mills

Down on Jakhal Road in Bareta, you will see Rangi Ram Rice & General Mills. The name has been on the wall for a long time, though the paint is peeling a bit now. We spend most of our hours in the yard or near the hoppers. It is a bit of a trek from the main part of town, so it stays relatively quiet except for the mill itself. When the harvest comes, though, everything changes and it gets loud. We have a couple of dogs that stay near the gate to watch the grain piles at night. They mostly just sleep in the shade during the day. The machinery we use is older, but it still runs fine if you know how to talk to it. Sometimes we have to stop everything just to clear out a jam, which usually happens when we are in a hurry. We keep a small stove in the corner for making tea and warming up some food in the winter months. The floor is mostly packed earth and concrete, so it gets a bit dusty when the wind blows through the open doors. We don't have a fancy sign or anything like that. People around Bareta just know where we are. We just take the grain, process it, and send it on its way.
