You can find Atma Ram Rice Mill at Shop No-42 in the Grain Market over at Bareta Mandi. Being inside the Mandi means we are right in the thick of the action. It is a very loud and crowded place, especially during the procurement season. There are people everywhere, heaps of grain on the floor, and a lot of shouting as deals are made. Our shop is just one of many, but we have our own way of doing things. We have a small mill setup where we process the rice for the farmers and traders who come through. It’s a humble space, with old wooden desks and piles of jute bags everywhere. We don't have air conditioning or anything fancy like that. We just have a couple of ceiling fans that don't do much against the heat. My family has been in the grain market for decades, and we’ve seen the market change a lot, but the work stays the same. We don't go around telling people we are the best; we just do our work and let the grain speak for us. It’s a lot of long hours, sometimes staying late into the night when the market is at its busiest. We eat our lunch right there at the desk and keep an eye on the scales. It’s a simple, honest life in the market and we wouldn't know what else to do.
