Our shop, Soni Paithani And Silk Sarees, is located in the Tilak Maidan area of Yeola, which is in the Nashik district. Yeola is a town that everyone knows for its weaving, so we are right in the middle of a long tradition. Our place is near the Maidan, so it’s easy to find if you are walking through that part of town. It isn’t a modern showroom with bright spotlights or marble floors. It is a traditional, local shop that feels very much like the town itself. We have stacks of silk and different fabrics everywhere, and the smell of the cloth is something you get used to. We have been here for many years and have seen the town change a lot, but our shop stays pretty much the same. We aren't interested in being a huge company or having branches all over the country. We just want to do our work here in Yeola. It is just a small family-run type of business where everyone chips in. We don't have fancy titles or a human resources department. If something needs fixing, we fix it ourselves. The shop is a place of work, first and foremost. People from the district know they can just come in and talk to us like normal people. We don't have a sales pitch, we just show what we have on the shelves. It’s a quiet, steady life here at Tilak Maidan.
