Shershahbadi Foundation

You will find the Shershahbadi Foundation out in Bishanpur, which is part of the Chanchal area in Malda. We work out of a space cared for by Umme Habiba. It’s a rural setting, far from the big city lights of Kolkata. Life moves a bit slower here near Dhangara. Our office is basically a room where we keep our files and meet up to talk about what the village needs next. It’s not fancy at all. There’s a lot of dust during the dry season and the roads get muddy when it rains, but we still get around to see the families in the area. We focus on the Shershahbadi community because that is who we are and who we live with every day. It started with a couple of us talking under a tree about how to get things done better in our own backyard. Now we have a proper mailing address at P.O Dhangara, though the postman sometimes takes his time getting here. We don't have a website or anything like that, just a real place where people can walk in. Most of the time we are out in the fields or visiting homes anyway. It is hard work and sometimes we wonder if we are making a dent, but then someone says thanks and it feels alright again. We just keep at it and see what happens.
