P.W. (Roads) Department

The P.W. (Roads) Department office here in Malda is where we handle the highway division stuff. We are based out of the office of the Executive Engineer, right along the Malda Highway Division area. If you know where the post office and the main district center are, you can find us easily enough in West Bengal. Our pin is 732 101. It’s a government office, so it looks exactly like you’d expect. There are lots of files and maps of the roads spread out on the tables. We spend a lot of time looking at the highway sections and figuring out which parts need the most attention this month. The traffic outside is always loud because of the heavy trucks going through Malda. It keeps us reminded of why the roads need constant upkeep. The staff here has been around for years. We know the potholes and the bridges in this division better than anyone else. Some days are just spent filling out forms or talking to contractors about the highway work. It gets dusty, and the summer heat in this part of West Bengal is no joke. We usually have the fans going full blast while we check the progress reports. It is just regular work, making sure people can get from one town to another without too much trouble. We’ve been here at this division for a long time now.
