Our shop is sitting right at Durgabari More in Chanchal. It is hard to miss us because we are so close to the field where the kids usually play. We have been here for quite some time now, just selling the basic things people need for their houses. The shelves are mostly full of things like hammers, nails, and different sizes of pipes. It gets pretty dusty inside because the road is right there and the trucks kick up a lot of dirt. We don't have any air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that rattles a bit when it's on high speed. Sometimes people just stop by to ask for directions or to see if we have a specific kind of screw in stock. We try to keep a bit of everything, but sometimes we run out of the popular stuff. My hands are almost always a little bit greasy from handling the metal parts or the ropes. We aren't a big fancy showroom like the ones you see in the city. It’s just a regular local hardware store where we know a lot of the people who walk in. The floor is made of old concrete and has some cracks in it from moving heavy bags of cement around. We open the shutters early in the morning and stay until it gets dark outside. It’s a simple life and we just keep busy with the daily work. Every now and then, we have to move some of the heavy stock around to make room for new deliveries that come in on the back of small trucks.
