Jhuma Basonalai is a small business located in Sujapur village, under the Kaliachak police station area. We’ve lived and worked in this village for our whole lives. Our shop is where we keep all kinds of metal pots, pans, and other kitchen items that people around here need. It’s a simple building, nothing like the big stores you see in the city. Most of the time, the shop is a bit cluttered because we get a lot of stock in at once. We know almost everyone in Sujapur, so when people come in, it’s usually for a chat as much as it is for buying something. Life in Kaliachak moves a bit slower, and we like it that way. We don't have any employees, just family members helping out. During the festivals, it gets really busy and the whole shop feels crowded. We don't use computers much; we mostly write everything down in a big register. It’s a traditional way of doing things, but it has worked for us for years. There’s no fancy branding here. We just put the items on the shelves and wait for the neighbors to stop by. Sometimes the dirt road outside gets muddy when it rains, making it hard for people to reach us, but they still come. It’s an honest local shop serving the people we’ve known forever. It stays busy.
