Taj Rice Mill

If you head down to Kanmanam Thekkummuri in Malappuram, you'll find us at number 895. Taj Rice Mill is where we spend our days. It’s noisy because of the machinery, but that's the sound of work getting done. We handle a lot of grain here, processing it and getting it ready for the market. It’s a lot of physical labor, and our clothes usually end up covered in husks by the end of the shift. We’ve been in this part of Malappuram for years, and we’ve seen the area change quite a bit. But the mill stays pretty much the same. We focus on the milling process, making sure the rice is cleaned and sorted properly. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s necessary. We don’t have a big front office with air conditioning. It’s just the mill floor and the storage area. We deal with local farmers mostly. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially during the monsoon when drying the grain becomes a real challenge. We just take it one day at a time. The local families around Kanmanam know us, and we try to be fair with everyone. It’s a practical business. We don't have any big slogans or anything. We just run the machines, pack the bags, and move them out. It’s what we know how to do best, and we’ve been doing it a long time now. You can usually find one of us sitting outside during the tea break.
