Being up here at 82/16, Up Hill in Malappuram means we deal with a lot of climbing. The road is a bit steep and sometimes the delivery trucks complain about coming all the way up here with the crates. I spend most of my time checking the bags and making sure everything is where it should be on the shelves. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially in the back where we keep the stock. We don't have much of a sign, just the door being open most of the time so the air can move through. People from the neighborhood stop by because it’s closer than going all the way down into the main town center. I usually have a radio playing somewhere in the background, mostly just the news or some local songs to keep the silence away. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks near the entrance that I keep meaning to fix but never get around to it. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes from one side of the room to the other. Sometimes I sit out front on a plastic stool when things are quiet and just watch the bikes go past on the slope. There is always a layer of dust on the windows because of the wind blowing up from the valley below. We just keep things moving and try to stay out of the sun while we get the work done.
