Jai Hind Flour Mills

You can find Jai Hind Flour Mills on Ponnani Road over in Edapal. It’s been sitting there for quite a while now. The building isn't much to look at, just a plain structure that houses our grinding machines. When the machines are running, the whole place vibrates a little. We get used to it, but visitors usually notice it right away. We mostly handle wheat, rice, and different kinds of spices. People in Edapal bring us their own ingredients because they want to know exactly what’s in their food. We just provide the service of turning it into powder. It’s a dusty job, and we wear old clothes because everything gets covered in flour by noon. There’s a constant sound of grain hitting the metal hoppers. We don't have a big office or a reception area. If you want to talk to us, you just come to the back where the work happens. Sometimes it’s quiet if the power is out, and we just sit on the steps and watch the traffic go by on Ponnani Road. We’ve seen the town grow and change, but the need for fresh flour stays the same. We don't do anything fancy with packaging. People usually bring their own containers or bags anyway. It’s just a straightforward, local business. We do the work, people pay the fee, and that’s the end of it. We just try to keep the machines in good shape.
