Chaliyar Nidhi Limited is found in the J.J Building at Nettikulam, specifically in Room No: 8/359 near the Uppada Post office in Malappuram. It’s a modest office in a part of town that feels very familiar to everyone who lives here. We’ve set up a few desks and some filing cabinets to keep everything in order. Most of our work involves helping neighbors save a little bit of money each month or giving out small loans when someone is in a pinch. The office isn't anything fancy; the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the chairs are a bit stiff. We don't mind, though, because it gets the job done. We get a lot of people coming in after they’ve visited the post office nearby. It’s a steady stream of familiar faces. We spend a good chunk of our day writing in passbooks and counting out cash. It’s important to be exact, so we don't hurry. Sometimes it gets a bit loud when the traffic on the road picks up, but we just keep our heads down and focus on the books. We know most of our members by their families and where they live. It’s a very local operation. By the time the sun starts to go down, we’re usually finishing up the last of the entries and getting ready to head home. It’s just simple, daily work for us.
