Up here in Pottippara, things move a little slower than they do in the town below. Al Marjan has been here for a while, focusing on the old ways of Ayurveda and Panchakarma. It’s a quiet spot, which helps when you’re trying to get better. The smell of the oils is everywhere; it’s soaked into the wood of the tables and the walls over the years. We don’t have much in the way of fancy gadgets. Instead, we have big pots and the right kind of leaves and roots to work with. The staff here knows how to handle the treatments without needing to be told every little thing. Sometimes the road up to Pottippara is a bit bumpy, especially after the heavy rains, but people still make the trip. We have a few rooms for staying over, nothing too luxurious, just a bed and a fan. We try to keep things clean and calm. It’s not a place for rushing through your day. If you come here, you have to be ready to sit still for a bit. We see folks with all kinds of aches and pains. We don’t promise any miracles, we just follow the methods we’ve been taught. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from sunrise until the evening when we finally close up. The nights get very dark out here, so we usually finish up early.
