Al Ameen Rice & Oil Mill

The mill is situated in Naduvattam, Eykyapadam, which is part of the Sukapuram and Vattamkulam area. It is a noisy place because the machines are running for most of the day. We handle rice and oil, so there is always a specific smell in the air, a mix of the grain and the pressing machines. It is hard work and our clothes usually end up covered in a bit of dust or oil by the time we go home. We have been doing this for a long time and we know the machines inside out. If something breaks, we usually fix it ourselves. Farmers and local families bring their stuff here and we process it for them. The building is big and open to keep the air moving because it gets very hot inside when everything is running at once. We don't have any office staff in suits. It is just us in our working clothes handling the bags and the drums. We don't talk much about goals or visions. We just focus on getting the rice cleaned and the oil pressed right. People trust us because they see the work happening right in front of them. It is a practical business and it keeps the local community supplied with what they need for their meals. That is enough for us. Sometimes the power fluctuates and we have to wait, but that is just part of the job here.
