K.J.Mehta General Hospital and the College of Medical Science are located out in Amargadh. It’s a big campus, much larger than most people expect when they first drive out here. You see a lot of young students in their white coats walking between the college buildings and the hospital wards. They are always carrying books or looking at their phones. Since it’s a general hospital, we get all sorts of cases coming in from the surrounding villages. Amargadh is quiet most of the time, but the hospital stays active 24 hours. The hallways are long and sometimes the smell of disinfectant is really strong. We have a lot of different wards, and the labs are always running tests. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to it. The canteen is where everyone ends up eventually for a quick bite or some chai. Sometimes the power flickers, but the generators kick in. People travel quite a distance to get here because there aren't many big facilities in this part of the region. It’s a teaching environment, so there’s always a lot of explaining going on between the senior doctors and the interns. It’s not a quiet place, there is always some noise from the trolleys or the people waiting in the corridors. We just try to get through the daily list of patients and make sure the students are actually learning something useful for their future careers.
